Study: 2 Chemotherapy Drugs May Work Better Against Colon Cancer

A combination of two chemotherapy drugs may be more effective in treating colon cancer than the use of either of the drugs alone, according to researchers at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

The combination of cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) and HER-2/neu inhibitors almost completely inhibited colorectal tumor growth, whereas treatment with either drug by itself only resulted in partially inhibited cell growth, according to the study published in Gastroenterology.

Researchers feel that the results of the study are exciting steps in the development of new combination approaches in the prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer.
